RSW has been invited to workshop with other innovators, creative, business owners, regulators and building industry professionals to talk through options for how to make the process of establishing hybrid business in this City and beyond easier.
Australia’s cities have shifted from centres of manufacturing and industry to the drivers of a globalised economy fuelled by knowledge, creativity and innovation.
This shift relies on new cultural enterprises from artists to community and performance spaces, co-working, start-ups, micro and niche manufacturing and pop-up retailers with entirely new business models.
Unfortunately, existing regulatory systems often lack clear criteria for these new forms of land and building use. Applicants frequently struggle to identify suitable building code and planning classifications, whilst authorities struggle to assess the risk and impacts of hybrid, mixed purpose and previously unseen types of activity.
With the nation’s creative industries vital to our future, Australian cities need regulation which balances this new productive economy with the need to maintain a safe and accessible built environment.
This forum brings together experts from the building, planning, access and safety fields with those working within the cultural, creative and knowledge sector.
We invite you to attend both a morning conference and afternoon workshop, where you’ll increase your understanding of new and creative land and buildings uses, and discuss a pathway towards better regulation.
The forum and workshops are free, however booking is essential. To RSVP, email [email protected] or call 02 9265 9333.
